The City of Polokwane has commenced with the rollout of the Transit Mall Project along General Joubert Street, between Grobler Street and Devenish Street, as part of the ongoing implementation of the Leeto La Polokwane Integrated Public Transport System (IPTS).

The Transit Mall forms a critical component of Leeto La Polokwane and is aimed at prioritising public transport, pedestrians, and non-motorised transport within the city centre. The project will transform this section of General Joubert Street into a safer, more efficient, and people-friendly corridor that supports reliable public transport operations while enhancing urban mobility.

Once completed, the Transit Mall will improve bus operations through dedicated public transport infrastructure, enhanced pedestrian walkways, and improved access to surrounding businesses and services. The project is designed to reduce congestion, improve safety, and support economic activity in the inner city by creating an organised and accessible transport environment.

The City of Polokwane encourages road users, commuters, and businesses operating along the affected corridor to cooperate during the construction phase, as temporary traffic disruptions may occur. Relevant traffic management measures and alternative access arrangements will be communicated as the project progresses.

The rollout of the Transit Mall Project along General Joubert Street marks an important step in delivering a modern, integrated, and sustainable public transport system through Leeto La Polokwane, reinforcing the City’s commitment to improving mobility and quality of life for all residents.
